Niagara Falls is a beautiful place to visit, especially in the winter.

But it can be so STARK, which I don't always find attractive, especially in a water environment.

So what would happen if I softened it up and added some color?

let's find outCollapse )

**warning -- mild nudity**

My partner sent me some very teasing shots fresh out of the shower. I started playing with some graphics techniques...looking for my own "style" and these are the result.

Comments welcome!!

they're nude, but tasteful (or so I hope)Collapse )

Ok...this is the Delicate Arch series. Another of those "these HAVE to be fake" shots.

I've been to Arches National Park in Moab, Utah a handful of times....next to the Grand Canyon, it's my second favorite national park, even though it's relatively small in comparison to others. Just the stark power of wind and water forming these incredible archways in the red rock in an awe-inspiring sight by itself.

Delicate Arch is the most famous. You take about a 2 1/2 mile hike to GET to it, but you can hang out on the edge of the "bowl," or go under it, or even sit or stand at its base (note the figure under the arch in pic #2).

In the pics you're about to view, you can see the Manti La Salle mountains about 75 miles southeast of the Arch in the background. I love these three most of all, two taken on the same visit (conditions were ideal for my style of photography) and one taken on a separate trip. Too bad I can't upload the video I have of one trip....

This is Angel's Landing in Zion National Park, southern Utah. Looking closely on the right you can see the trail as it winds up to the top, 1565 feet above the canyon floor. Yeah, this is a webshot, but I wanted you to see it for the scale of what you'll see under the cut.

A few years ago, my sister, her son, and I took a trip there and hiked to the top. The first pic you'll see is my nephew Chris looking into the valley from above the sheer rock face on the webshot. The second pic is me, looking down into the valley a little below where Chris was. That sheer face is a favorite for rock climbers, and a group was about 1/2 way up setting up "camp." They clipped themselves into hammocks suspended about 1000 feet up or so and spent the night. I want to DO that someday.

Since Yellowstone was well recieved, I'll continue the series. But in moderation; I'll leave this as the last for today.

I stood on the edge of Teton Lake and took about six pictures. The last two wouldn't compile the scale properly, but I like the overall look.

Comments welcome, and have a great night! I LOVE this community!

I lived in Utah for ten years -- it was a regular activity for me to alternate trips to Yellowstone, Arches National Park, Zion National Park....I love the wilderness, even the "developed" types of parks like Yellowstone and Yosemite.

You'll get the chance to see pics of those depending on comments I get.

For now, here's a completely unretouched photo of a hillside. The only manipulating I did was to incorporate a collage of the Upper Falls and one of Rainbow Pool, also unretouched.

I hope you like.
